I have a 402SR-TW engine mated to a Tremec 500 that keeps climbing to 100C. The engine has 150 miles and so far I have had it professionally flushed, changed the thermostat to a 160 and installed a 3600CFM fan, none of which have worked. I grant you the 100+ heat in Phoenix does not help, can anyone tell me what is wrong. I am very worried the engine will be damaged by this problem.
Thanks

This weekend I just put in some Royal Purple coolant additive, and it does seem to help. However our heatwave has also subsided so I will need more time in order to determine if it actually does work.
Also is your expansion tank level half full?
I have just under 400 miles on my 427SR/TW and the motor does seem to be settling in now.
What are your oil temps? Mine never get over 80c so far.
You should watch your oil temps as if the oil is ok the motor isn't overheatiing.

Will try the Royal Purple. The oil temp is fine about the same or less than yours. The motor seems to be ok until I hit 90C and then when it has to idle at a light or is pushed just a "bit" is starts to climb, this is all in the space of about 10 miles or less with 40-60 MPH speeds. I am concerned there is something wrong with this engine. Have owned solid lifter 64 corvettes and Porsche's and pushed them hard in these temps and not had this happen. Biggest problem is, at this point I have addressed everything I know know except the water pump, which I believe is working fine??
Thanks for your response.

I also have an email submitted to Roush, let's hope they are better at responding than the folks at BDR. I had asked what CFM the fan was and no one from the company ever responded. Would like to buy a GT next, so I will have to decide between Superformance and BDR then between Roush and Ford Racing. I hope Roush comes thru for me, I had heard they are a good company, let's see what happens.

Randy how does the motor seem to run as far as tuning?
Are your eyes burning at a stop light from the fumes because it is to rich is it running lean etc. All this will effect your water temps.
These motors are HP and upwards of 500 hp which does have a byproduct"Heat"
I am thinking at some time I may upgrade to another radiator with more cores in it to aid in better cooling.

Thanks Marc,
The mixture seems to be fine, smells just my old 67 427 corvette which I had professionally tuned. Looks to be an aluminum rad, so I do not know what is left. As I mentioned, I am awaiting a reply from Roush. They do have a warranty dealer about 10 miles away, who worked on my son's 66 289 mustang that hovers around 85C all day long in this heat.
Thanks for your interest

Randy,
I hear BDR has two different Temp. fan switches they put in. 1 is for hotter climates come on sooner and one for the cooler climates comes on later.
Have you tried leaving your manual fan overide switch on from the start till you park it. If not try that and see if your temps stabilize, if they do your fix would be to swap out the fan switch.
One other thought would be your anitfreeze mixture, is it 50/50? Water is a better coolant so maybe change you mixture to 70/30 more water.
Since you are in Arizona I don't think you have to worry about freeze up and you would still have sufficient coolant for seal lubrication.
Let me know how you make out.
Marc;)

Actually Marc, the over ride switch is always on and I even run it after the car has been stopped. I have switched to water and water wetter, will try Royal Purple per your suggestion, but thus far nothing has worked.
Thanks again, Randy
