I have a 2008 428R with 1600 miles on it and the shifter seems to be binding when it gets warm:eek:. I originally thought it was the shifter but checked it the following day when it was cool and there was no binding.

Anyone have a clue as I am now ready to send back to Krieger Ford in Columbus for warranty work?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Well, I found out today that the syncro's are out of the transmission and the dealer tells me there is a bulletin on this problem. Onward and upward!

Not to sound cynical. At lease you found the problem.

Unfortunately, no. Got the car back from the dealer last weekend and it was good for about 2 hours before the problem re-occured and now noise. Going back to the dealer again this Saturday.

I'm experiencing the same problem. The shifter gets really stiff when it's hot. Going back to the dealer. I'll let you know what I find out.

Please let me know and I will do the same. Thanks

This is the answer I got from RP engineering:

Due to the tight tolerances of the shifter bearing assembly, some of the shifters need to "wear in" to completely eliminate the "stiction" feel. We have been instructing customers to wait until their first oil change to assess if the issue is still present. If the issue still exists, instruct them to file a warranty claim and we will help them to get it resolved.

I appreciate your following up with RP as I heard back from Ford and they have instructed the Dealer not to do anything with the transmission as they have already installed the syncro's. Unfortunately, the shifting is still a problem and it is bad enough that it becomes difficult to hit the right gear. Suggestions as it is currently sitting at the Ford dealer? Again, thanks for the reply.

Well, the dealer has ordered the new shifter from RP and is expected to arrive tomorrow morning. Just in time to leave on Wednesday for Thursday's tour and car show.

Thanks to all for the comments, suggestions and calls to RP as I expect this should take care of the issue.

This is good to hear. I still haven't had a chance to take mine into the dealer. :(

Is this only occuring in the 428R's? I have a 427R and have never had a problem. I have a friend with a 428R and he doesn't have any problems either?
Did they switch transmissions or shifters at some point?

Mine is a Stage 3. I don't think anything has changed in the tranny.
