View Full Version : Vent Pod/Boost Gauge problems
Hello Everyone! long time no see! I hope everyone is doing well and the new site looks great!
I finally decided to take the 429 out of the garage this past weekend! I noticed that the vent pod/gauge didn't move whenever i was giving it a good reason to. lol Normally, I notice the needle move and the light on, until recently.
The needle moves when i press the buttons below, and i can set the light to come on at intervals but, it just doesn't move by itself.
I pulled it out of the vent and looked at the back of it, everything seemed tight.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

What kind of gauge is it (oil, temp, boost/Vac, etc) and is it a mechanical or electrical gauge? If everything looks right on the rear of the gauge then you need to start looking for other connections...

I had the same problem when my P-51 first arrived. They found an electrical problem and replaced the gauge at the dealer under warranty.
it's a boost gauge, i guess it could be electrical im gonna check for loose hoses in a bit. The car only has 3k miles on it, so i hope it doesn't have to go to the dealer again...
My shifter started sticking again, already had it replaced once. Time to get a MGW i guess.
Thanks for the advice

Good luck. They did my shifter twice as well and it still is giving me problems when hot. I have 6500 miles on it now. I'm not sure what they will do the 3rd time.

The 3rd time is the lemon-law rule, they will give you a new P-51 (lol). My car is still at the dealership going on 3 weeks.
ouch, im not going for the third time. I ordered my mgw shorty this morning.
The problem with the boost gauge was with the vacuum hose adapter that hooks up under the control module. It goes under the box, front passenger side.
I checked and found not one but two, vacuum hose adapters that dry-rotted and blew apart. That's pretty bad for a 2009 with 3400 miles on it. Never even seen rain...
Thanks, for the help :)

It was leaking oil out of the front cover ( not much). I saw it when I was changing oil. They replaced shocks and bushings in the rear. It was making noise. I also complained about the gear shifter making a funny noise. It doesnt stick though. I hear rear end noise after shifting and giving it some gas, but they dont hear it. Trying to get them to send pcm to Roush for reprogramming. No communication from service advisor lady. Cant get her to return calls. Oh well, Im not putting miles on it. haha
well i thought i had it fixed...I got the part replaced rubber adapters for the vacuum hose. Hooked it back up and went for a test drive.
The needle on the gauge at idle or when the car is off stays at 20 Vac if im going down the road it'll be at about 10 Vac. When I step on it, the needle seems to respond and show about 3lb.
I seem to remember, that at idle or while crusing the needle is supposed to be at 0? Am i wrong?
Thanks,
Mike
Sorry to hear about your car brd...maybe all of our glitches will be worked out by the time we get 20k miles on them :)

If you have a friend that has a boost gauge in his car, try connecting his in your car and see if there is any difference. Your gauge might be the problem.

Yeah, I still think its the gauge too. Mine reads -22 while idling, and -5 to -10 or so cruising down the road. It hits 0 if I give it gas, and slowly moves up the harder I hit the pedal up to the peg that doesn't allow it to go any futher.
thanks for the great help and advice! Checked another boost gauge and it read the same. Problem resolved, Vacuum issue

Well, it sounds like you still have a vacuum issue to resolve....
