My trusty, 95,000-miles 2002 Level II (Roush Serial # 6363) seems to be needing a new clutch (through-out bearing, etc.) We installed an aftermarket HD clutch cable assembly about 15,000 miles ago and now I'm wondering if the clutch assembly that's in there was anything but stock GT. Roush just told me to stay with the stock Motorcraft factory package - that carries a price of $625 or so. (no flywheel or labor)

I saw a variety of RAM brand clutch assemblies on American Muscle (Models HDX, Powergrip, Powergrip HD, Powergrip HD 26 spline, then SPEC Stage 1 & Spec Stage 2). For the performance versions, they talk about chatter starting off. Reader comments said pedal pressure was actually less that factory.

Can anyone suggest an option? (no supercharger, but do run track events)

Chuck,
I have the Ford Racing King Cobra clutch since 03 in mine.

Marc,

Thanks ... is this where I find it? (I see the King Cobra reference)

You can get it there or Summit Racing, Jegs, MRT,even RP might be selling now. You I believe have the 3650 transmission which would be the 11 inch clutch plate.

I talked with your friend Kim at MRT. She tells me you have their clutch and I should too, and she's planning to call you to confirm. I told her I was a bit confused between the King Cobra assembly posted here at: http://www.mrt-direct.com/54b203.html and then the RAM assembly posted here at: http://www.lmperformance.com/16190/50.html.

She says she checked with Boss Man Scott and he says the RAM is fine. Do you agree? Same or less pedal pressure; no chattering? (and will allow me to overtake you next time out?)

Chuck,
I can only speak on the king cobra (Mustang) and centerforce (Cobra) the FMS cobra clutch has been in the mustang since 03 numerous track events and no chatter and pedal pressure is moderate. The pressure plate isn't as severe as I believe it is rated for around 400-450 hp so this should be a good one for your non supercharged application.

The higher rated clutches such as the centerforce is a harder pedal effort so I have a hydraulic cylinder for the Cobra and it is actualy easier on the legs than the Mustang. I don't know about the Ram clutch but have heard they have a tough pedal.

The FMS has my vote from experience for the 430 hp and torque I have and the track days still going strong.
