I'm curious if anyone has had this problem. I do. After a good steady rain or a bunch of wash jobs from going to car shows I get a bunch of water in the passenger floor area. You don't realize you have it until you can smell it. The carpet ends up smelling something horrible. Not what you want to have on cruise night...
There is a TSB on it, #08-26-7. It is a very informative one. I'll try to post it up here. It shows multiple places where the water could be coming from including places where they (Ford) may have missed some body sealer. Another place is at the gaskets where the cowl snaps into the body. I've called 3 dealers and they said they've never seen a Mustang come in for that. Figures right? Normal lip service. Sooo, I'm wondering if anyone here has had a similar issue and what was done to fix it. I guess the water could be coming in to the drivers floor or the passenger floor. In my case I think it may be the cowl gaskets because they have a new design for them but my cowl has been off "once or twice" (but I think it had the problem since it was new) and just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue before I have parts all over my driveway trying to find it. Plus, it was the main reason why I put the car away in mid October. Here in Michigan the rain somtimes never seems to end that time of year.

Passenger side.... Smells.... You sure it is not a Heater Core?

I've heard the S-197's suffer from this problem but haven't had any problems with mine yet (knock on wood)...

Here's the TSB, Scot. Thanks for the heads up. While my car gets washed every weekend, its never at a high-pressure car wash; however, even with all the washing and rains, there is no leak yet in my '08.

I'm sure it's not the heater core. I can see water coming down from above the kick panel in the A-pilar area. If it was the heater core it would be blowing coolent out of the vents or dripping on top of the carpet. Here's a funny, it doesn't smell like coolent either. It smells like the worse pair of dirty socks you've ever smelled. I took the seat out and pealed the carpet back to clean/dry it. Thanks for the idea tho.

Thanks Koji. I haven't figured out how to post a file on here yet.

This leak doesn't need high pressure to run through either. It only gets washed with the garden hose on "shower" mode and it still leaks. Seems like a good steady rain for a couple of hours just sitting really does pump the water into it.

Is it possible the windshield is leaking? Was it ever replaced?

It probably is possible. It has never been replaced though. Looks like I'm going to have to just take it apart and have someone spray water on it. It could be the cowl gaskets or missing sealer or the window trim. I'm starting to be pretty amazed there is a TSB for a problem very few people have. I guess they made it just for me. I'm sooooo lucky...

In reality, I'm trying to get this part of the forum going with questions. I'm surprised all the people on here don't need any tech advise or have any questions.
With water on the brink of freezing here, I probably won't get a chance to look at it agan until spring. I'll post what I find.

Check with a local dealer. It will be covered by the 3/36 base warranty. We have a specialist come by the dealer once a week that does water leak repairs. The carpet and pad should be warrantied, as well.

Unfortunately technical questions very seldom get answered here, all the knowledge is over there ---->> which hopefully we can bring more of over here <<---

06stage2,

Just an fyi The starter of this post is an engineer at RP. Can't get much more technical than that.

Scot knows these cars inside and out.

I've called 3 of the local dealers and none of them have ever seen this issue.
Because of what my car was and it's an '06 I don't get warranty even though it's only got around 15,000 miles on it. I wish I did at least for the carpet part. Plus, I would be a nervous wreck leaving my car at the dealer. I'd have to sit with it all day... Maybe I'll call them back and ask them if they've got a "water leak guy".

Here is a video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9O0bexXqsc It's not my car but I had a leak that wasn't that bad but it was still bad enough. I followed the TSB but I have pictures of what was wrong with my car so you know what you're looking for. Let me know if you may need help with this.

As far as I can tell no water leak. I am getting some Power Steering fluid srap from the pin hole vent on my upgraded metal tank from Roush Yates when I am on the track. Not sure how to address that one!

So the car doesn't leak but at my age I... Oh never mind!

Mine wasn't as bad as that. I'm still trying to get all the pictures and the video I took. I need to get them all in in order and marked up.

Hi, I'm not a Roush owner but I had the exact same problem with my 07 Mustang GT. The response from Ford is typical, they've been denying this issue since 2005!! I found that the problem with my car was caused by leaves and gunk clogging the drains at the bottom of the open space in the firewall, under the cowl, where the cabin filter is located. These rubber drains are very hard to see because the rubber grommets point down toward the road from a ledge on the firewall. the passenger side one is located next to and below your battery shelf and can be found by running your hand along that ledge. there's another on the drivers side on the same ledge near the back of your valve cover on that side. they fill with debris at an alarming rate, and clog up. the water then backs up and pours into the interior of the car through the cabin filter. it saturates your GEM module (SJB) and will cause numerous electrical problems down the road. I advise anyone with a s197 body vehicle to check these drains as part of your normal maint. Not sure if this is the issue with yours, but it sounds quite possible. Hope this helps and my heart goes out to ya, I know too well the feeling of driving down the road cursing Ford as a waterfall pours from behind my glove box. Good luck, -JD

I had to replace the right window seal and the cowl gromets. My fuel gauge is still not working and I have other electrical issues here and there that are I'm sure caused by the sjb. I have pics and all that. I need to post them. I was pretty mad to find water in the car too. I took a video of it... Thanks for the info.
