Brought the car out the to the Vacation home in the Hamptons and getting mad usage out of it.:D Great towns to cruise around, much appreciation out here for rare and exotic cars. I have noticed that when the car has been running for a while the shifter arm becomes hot and very stiff. It actually makes a squeaking noise when moved left to right in neutral. Anybody share this issue?

same problem here and I've seen it referenced on other sites. I've heard it's a lubrication fix but mine's going into the dealer for a look.

Cool. let me know how you make out. Hopefully I can do what they do at home, instead of running it to the dealer. Where is your Roush dealer on the Island, since the car is now full time @ the Hamptons home, I need a dealer out here.

Rick, your Roush has the tranny that's standard with the Mustang GT, yes? I have the Roush short-throw and a one-piece driveshaft and drive it daily (20,000 in less than 15 months)...but have no issue with "squeaks" and such. I'd be curious to hear about it more when it's resolved...
It seems also as if you're looking for a Roush dealership in NY? I'm not at all familiar with NY geography (duh) but here's a link for dealerships:

Good luck!

I had the same issue last summer with my 428R and the dealer had to install a new shifter. It got very hot and would not move side to side very easily, but didn't make any noises. Sorry:(

There have been numerous posts on this topic. My 07 Chattered until about 4K miles on it. So far the 09 BJ has been AOK with the shifter.
Good luck!

The chatter is a seperate issue, that deals w/ the clutch. I had the clutch chatter as well and it is basically gone now w/ 1400 on the clock. Is that what you are referring to?

I could hold the shifter and it would not chatter. After about 3 to 4K in miles it stopped. I read several posts about shim kits in the shifters to stop the chattering.
I guess a couple of issues here.

oh, I know what you mean. My shifter sometimes makes a rattle / chatter sound under acceleration, and when I grab it, it stops. Seems like these shifters are faulty.

Did you get the new shifter? I just had my 427R into the dealer (only 900 miles) as my shifter squeaks constantly just from road vibration once it gets warm. Has anyone else experienced this? A new shifter from Roush is on the way to my dealer for install so I hope this remidies the problem.

I am still amazed with the number of problems with the shifter. Amazing.

We are getting a new shifter on the P-51...it gets really sticking and hard to shift at time. Was told there is a recall. Roush is shipping a new one to the people who do all the work on our cars.

Sorry, I haven't posted sooner...but we did get the new shifter on the P-51(warranty from Roush)...makes all the difference in the world, shifts much easier now :D

Hey there Mrs. Snake, did you simply go thru your dealer?

we did it through CarFX, they are authorized to do Roush warranty and do all the work on our cars, but your dealer should be able to take care of it.

What is CarFx, they nationwide? Did you have to show them the shifter was defective first? My local Roush dealer went out and I need to drive a good 40min to get to the new one.

I took mine to the dealer and they did "something" to it, but I know it wasn't replaced...probably lubricated. It got better for awhile, but when it gets hot its starts to act up. By that I mean, its hard to get into some gears every now and then.
Are you all saying that Roush knows this is a problem and is replacing the entire shifter????

I kinda wonder if this isn't a transmission issue, I had problems with my stock Ford shifter on the track at the roundup. Didn't want to shift into 3rd once it got hot.
yes, there is a problem with the shifters. Alot of people have since swapped their shifters out for other makes. When the shifter warms up it gets hard to shift from gear to gear. I took mine down to a local Ford dealer a few months back and Roush sent them a new shifter to swap it with.
Btw, i have a 2009 429R so not sure if that will help your model of Roush or not.

These shifters that are being replaced, are they the short throws or standard? Mine did this once during the summer, got hot and began to "tighten" up on me during shifts. But even after a few weekend sessions on road courses later, no problems. Hmmm

My shifter ( steel shaft) also gets hot on extended outings. My car is NOT a daily driver but have had it on several 200 plus mile excursions. Mine also gets a little difficult to shift when it does that. I'm taking her down to run the snake nest summer in Tennessee and need it to shift like its suppossed to.
Biggest problem- car only has 2300 miles on it so I'm not will to run right over to the dealer just yet. I've also got a little light chatter in the throwout (or pilot) bearing in the clutch peda area l- is that normal for something brand spank? Curious

Mine chatters on take off, and especially in reverse VERY BAD. The shifter had given me problems in the past, but the dealer did something to it, not sure what cause when I asked they said they "tighten it up and lubed it". It hasn't given a problem since, but still chatters.
Mine now has 3800 miles on it.

Mine is the Roush short throw and it was getting so stiff when it got hot it felt like it was grinding. I finally got it to the dealer last month. Service manager said that Roush knew of the problem and sent a new short throw shifter. The story I got is that there is a bushing that warps under heat and causes the stiffness and grinding. It is supposed to have been replaced with a bushing of a different material, I think he said nylon. Unfortunately I won't be able to tell if the problem is solved until next spring.

I 'm sure mine is too-but my be different in the Trak Pak.? I'll take it in - but like you next spring. I'm also gonna up grade mine to 505 ponies. Very inexpensive to do.

The shifters in the Trak Pak are the same as what's in all the rest. If your shifter is getting stiff when it's hot, have it replaced. The new bearings should fix it.

is that shifter problem documented anywhere. I wanna let my dealer know. Of course, I would think they know but would like to do it as painlessly as possible.
